InterGen Volunteer connects outside volunteers with older adults. Safety is not legal fine print — it is why an executive director should consider the platform at all.
Identity verification
Every volunteer must present a valid government-issued photo ID. Student volunteers also provide student identification so communities know who is walking in the door.
Community approval of volunteers
InterGen Volunteer does not send unapproved people into a building. The senior living community reviews applications and decides who may volunteer on site.
Background checks
Communities may require background checks as a condition of approval. Where a partner plan includes background-check integration, that is a tool for the community — InterGen Volunteer does not replace the community’s screening standards or legal obligations.
Age requirements and parental consent
Minors may volunteer only when a community accepts them and a parent or guardian has consented. InterGen Volunteer does not place unsupervised minors with residents.
Supervision
Volunteer–resident interactions happen in designated common areas under facility staff supervision. Volunteers are not left alone with residents in private rooms or bathrooms.
Prohibited activities
Volunteers do not provide medical care, administer medication, lift or transfer residents, access medical records, or enter restricted areas such as medication storage.
Privacy
Do not photograph residents or post resident information on social media. Follow the community’s privacy rules and InterGen Volunteer’s Privacy Policy.
Incident reporting
Accidents, injuries, near-misses, suspected abuse or neglect, and safety hazards must be reported immediately to facility staff and to InterGen Volunteer. The full Safety Guidelines describe timing and documentation.
Who is responsible for what
InterGen Volunteer is a platform: we help communities post opportunities and help volunteers apply and track hours. The senior living community remains responsible for resident care, on-site supervision, and who is allowed in the building. Volunteers are responsible for following instructions and never providing clinical care.
